The fall of child stars is such a cliche at this point, but it is still a reality for those falling. Demi Lovato is a recent child star who fell and is trying with this album to reform as a new presence in the world of entertainment. If you're like me and you know nothing about Lovato here is a brief summary. Hits it big on Disney, releases a couple of albums that do very well. While on tour and filming a hit show on Disney she checked into rehab for not only an eating disorder, but also self mutilation issues. Drugs are just assumed by everyone as well though denied by Lovato. A year later and after her hit show has been cancelled she's back with Unbroken her answer to all of her fans.
This is a bad album and here's why. First it plays on her personal drama with songs like "Skyscraper," a song not written by Lovato, and second it blends these confessional songs with bland throwaway club tracks. So we're suppose to get into the grime of her personal collapse in one minute and then in the next we're suppose to go clubbing with her and Missy Elliott.
Lovato is not the first to go through this treatment and she won't be the last. Sometimes these albums can work in their own weird way, usually because they blend in enough solid pop tunes that it just works, but here it doesn't and you're left with a bad taste in your mouth after listening to it.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 0 out of 5 stars for Don't Like.
