When I was young I was into albums like Straight Between the Eyes (Rainbow), Pyromania (Def Leppard), and Don't Say No (Billy Squier), so I can understand the appeal of hard rock. The thing is though if you think of those three albums you'll find something that this album by Staind is missing, solid pop hooks. They rocked, but they rocked with an ear to pop music and that's what made those albums work so well.
Staind is not an album aimed at metal core fans, it is an album aimed at hard rock fans with a hint of metal core mixed into the blend, but to make that work you have to create songs that have pop heavy hooks and they are simply missing on this album. It's not a bad album and I like the opening track, but it's not anything to write home about either.
Still if you're in the mood for some heavy rock then give it a listen you may enjoy it.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.
