ReplyDeleteOh, my Lord, this bridge deal is significantly more terrifying than what I gathered from the nighttime dispatches.
ReplyDeleteActually, these two up-close and enlarged nighttime photographs are as scary as they can be. Thank God no one was killed.
ReplyDeleteWell, this bridge story is just amazing.
ReplyDeleteOh, my Lord.
ReplyDeleteThis off-duty police officer who got traffic stopped is my early-bird recommendation for HPKo12.
ReplyDeleteIn an interview with WKDZ, Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet called averting injuries and fatalities last night, "a bonafide miracle."
ReplyDeleteOK ... whole new level of terror ... the WKDZ interview with Robert Parker of Cadiz about 60 percent down this page is absolutely chilling.
ReplyDelete... The two-lane bridge – formally the Eggner’s Ferry Bridge – is at the western entrance to Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. It opened to traffic in 1932. Its elevation was raised in 1943 when the Tennessee River was impounded to create Kentucky Lake.
ReplyDeleteOn average, the bridge carries approximately 2,800 vehicles across the lake per day. The Transportation Cabinet is in the initial phases of replacing the bridge, along with the nearby bridge over Lake Barkley on the eastern side of Land Between the Lakes. Preconstruction work, including geotechnical drilling, began months ago. ...
With loss of the bridge, motorists will be advised to take alternate routes, such as Interstate 24 around the northern end of Land Between the Lakes.
For me, one of the hardest things about moving back to Western Kentucky would be how you are constantly going over those bridges. It didn't bother me when I was a kid, but it would bother me now.

ReplyDeleteCybersportsUSA.com indicates that Heath is in for quite a challenge this evening against West Carter in Frankfort.
ReplyDeleteThat bridge story still has me scared.
ReplyDeleteIt has honestly freaked me out all day.
ReplyDeleteI knew Tipton would go nuts over Hickey. Nothing makes him happier than a kid from Kentucky who plays well against UK.
ReplyDeleteWell, nothing except possibly a huge volcano blowing up in the middle of campus and totally destroying everything associated with UK basketball. That would really make him happy.
BUT THEY CAN'T MEASURE OUR HEART!!!
ReplyDeletePer the CypersportsUSA.com animation, the Pirates lead, 6-3, midway through Quarter 1. Hooray for CypersportsUSA.com! Hooray for workday sporting events! And hooray for Heath!
8-3. The Pirates have come to play, obviously.
ReplyDelete14-4 through one quarter in Frankfort.

ReplyDeleteUp next: Bardstown.
ReplyDeleteLitkenhous Ratings as of Monday:
Heath: 64.2
Bardstown: 83.4 (tops among all teams in the 5th Region)
Heath is now 15-7; the Pirates have won seven games in a row and eight of their last nine. Their only loss in 2012 was on January 6, when they lost 49-48 at Tilghman.
Bardstown is 17-6. They beat Lexington Christian 58-46 in the first round of the All "A" Classic, and followed that up with a 63-43 win over Glasgow. The only teams to beat them this year are: East Jessamine, Bullitt East, Fairdale, Trinity, Henry Clay, and Male. So they have been tough on teams not from the Louisville and Lexington areas.
BUT THEY HAVEN'T YET PLAYED THE PIRATES!!!
