Today we have the quarter-finals of the Louisville Invitational Tournament (all games at Bellarmine). We should have four pretty good games:
Jeffersontown (12-6) v. Pleasure Ridge Park (15-3)
Trinity (12-2) v. Eastern (9-8)
Manual (12-5) v. Moore (14-3)
Bullitt East (14-2) v. Ballard (12-5)
According to the Litkenhous Ratings, today's games feature the top four teams in the state: Trinity, Bullitt East, Ballard, and PRP.
We'll be commenting on the games, but for more detailed information you should follow the invaluable Jason Frakes of the C-J, who is blogging from Bellarmine.
Game 1 was spectacular. PRP scored 31 points points in the first quarter (!), and led 31-19 after 8 minutes. Then J-Town cut into the lead, and PRP was up 52-41 at the half. Then everything slowed down quite a bit, and PRP led 65-56 after three quarters, and they led 73-68 with 3:38 left in the fourth.
ReplyDeleteThey were still up 78-75 with 33.6 seconds to go. But then J-Town scored the last five points to the game, and pulled out an 80-78 victory in which they led for only about 5 seconds.
So J-Town moves on.
Game 2 -- not so interesting. Trinity crushes Eastern 68-44. The Shamrocks will play J-Town in the semi-finals tomorrow at 10 A.M.
ReplyDeleteGame 3 is another classic. Manual led Moore 22-8 after the first quarter and 36-26 at the half. But Moore fought back and nipped Manual 73-71 to advance to the semi-finals.
ReplyDeleteGame 4 was supposed to be a heavyweight showdown between Bullitt East and Ballard, the number 2 and 3 teams in the Commonwealth, according to Litkenhous. But it was never close, as Ballard led 44-28 at the half and cruised to a 73-55 victory.
ReplyDeleteThe Bruins advance to take on Moore in tomorrow morning's second semi-final.
