Oh, Kentucky

Great week for Louisville Central High. Not only did the Yellowjackets win another Class 3A state football championship, but also one of its grads, Corey Peters, was named the Atlanta Falcons' Man of the Year.

On the other hand, Mayfield ... The Cardinal football team was upset for the Class A crown on Friday, and then the cheerleaders were edged by the Paducah Quick Step Cloggers at the Paducah Christmas parade.

More Christmas parading, in Calvert City and Russell Springs.

I love news about restaurant and hotel openings.

Kentucky Camrys are headed to South Korea.

Good jobs news in Wilder.

What non-urban homelessness looks like. This is a good ongoing series in The Jessamine Journal.

Sweden's Allt for Sverige TV program is featuring the Louisville First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) minister.

Jennifer Smith in the Lexington Herald-Leader reported that Sara Hammond, a UK fan her whole Rock-is-hard! life, did not receive a scholarship offer from the Wildcats.

I am so rooting for the MCC Pacers.

Also, I was rooting for the Scott Wells and Kim Harrison of Hanson, but, nonetheless, congratulations to the McCains of Springfield.

  1. Coach Cal is today's mystery guest on The Joe B & Denny Show. A caller won a $25 gift certificate to Rafferty's for finally correctly guessing. Two of the incorrect guesses were Jerry Jones and Emeril Lagasse.

  2. Coach Crum just said that he never played a point guard.

"That's right," Coach Cal said. "You played big guards, and you switched everything up. That's why you were so hard to guard."

Every so often, Coach Crum gets into these very passionate arguments for posting up guards, and I always love these moments on the show.

  3. Coach Cal just invited Coach Crum to practice. (Coach Hall visited yesterday.)

"Oh, you don't want me up there," Coach Crum says with a laugh.

"Come on now," Coach Cal persists. "Coach Hall gives me that 1-3-1, and you could give me some of that UCLA high cut."

"Well," Coach Crum says, "I could do that."

I would lay money that this wasn't nearly as light of an exchange as it might've seen. Coach Crum just clobbered Coach Pitino at the end of last season, and I'll bet Coach Cal would love to have some stories out there about Coach Crum showing up at UK's practices. I don't think it would have much direct recruiting impact, but it would not go unnoticed by the booster community.

  4. Joe B just wrapped up a conversation about how to structure a college-football playoff by calling the Kentucky state high-school basketball tournament "the best show of all of them."
