This album should be titled, The Many Sides of Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Honestly there is something on here for almost anybody. From 60's psychedelic blues, to 80's pop blues, to the recent adult alternative it's all covered. Oh and don't forget 70's blues rock, and 90's straight pop blues.
This is of course the biggest problem with the album. Unless you are a fan of all forms of blues in pop music over the past 50 years you'll have songs you like followed by songs you really don't like and so it's a tough listen at 17 tracks.
If you're having a blues themed party, this might be a fun album to throw on for background music since it's all over the place. Personally I wish he had made a full 8 to 10 track album of music inspired by Cream, that's my favorite stuff on this album.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.
at some point toward the end of the government cheese's main incarnation, they started covering "we're an american band" by grand funk railroad. i really thought they did great with it, and, apparently their record label thought so, too, because it got released as a single. which was odd. anyway, this caused all kinds of bait-and-switch problems for the band, apparently--people would come out to see a one band, based on hearing their pretty straight-up cover of "we're an american band," and then they'd end up seeing a different band for most of the night.
ReplyDeleteanyway, all of that is to say that i think, if you're planning on selling something to people for a long time, you probably don't want to dabble around in stuff that you don't want to do for a long time because you might be surprised by which of your indulgences your customers might actually glom on to.
