Home teams first. Private schools in italics:
Class 1A:
Mayfield 44 - 0 Lou. Holy Cross
Frankfort 19 - 51 Beechwood
Williamsburg 0 - 28 Hazard
Fairview 18 - 20 Pikeville
Not any big surprises here. If I were Holy Cross, I would be trying to figure out how to get into Class 2A.
Class 2A:
Murray 17 - 14 Owensboro Catholic (OT)
Glasgow 21 - 0 Lou. Christian Academy
Newport Cent. Catholic 21 - 24 Cov. Holy Cross
Somerset 55 - 14 Lex. Christian
I was really surprised by Murray's victory over Owensboro Catholic.
Class 3A:
Paducah Tilghman 17 - 20 Fort Campbell
Lou. Central 26 - 0 Bell Co.
Garrard Co. 48 - 16 Powell Co.
Breathitt Co. 14 - 28 Belfry
As I expected, Central had no problems with Bell Co. I think Tilghman would have beaten Fort Campbell if they had been playing them for the first time. But Tilghman crushed the Falcons a few weeks ago, and they really underestimated them. By the time PTHS realized they were in trouble, it was too late for them to catch up. A real heartbreaker for the Blue Tornado.
Class 4A:
Lone Oak 7 - 20 Franklin-Simpson
Martha Layne Collins 13 - 12 Lou. Western (at Shelby Co.)
Lex. Catholic 10 - 7 Boyle Co.
Ft. Thomas Highlands 49 - 14 Cov. Catholic
Lone Oak's defeat -- and the fact that the McCracken County Mustangs will play in the same class as Louisville Trinity -- means that the Heath Pirates will remain the only high school from the McCracken County School District to win a state football championship for many years to come.
Class 5A:
Bowling Green 52 - 19 Warren Central
John Hardin 35 - 6 Lou. Jeffersontown
Conner 30 - 31 Anderson Co.
Southwestern 28 - 21 Harlan Co.
I was happy for the BGHS fans, who have suffered a lot of emotional defeats to Warren Central in recent basketball seasons, and who finally got some revenge.
Class 6A:
Henderson Co. 24 - 31 Lou. Butler
Lou. Trinity 42 - 6 Lou. St. Xavier (at Cardinal Stadium, Louisville)
Lou. Eastern 14 - 52 Scott Co.
Lex. Lafayette 0 - 21 Boone Co.
I told you not to believe in Fayette County football.
