311 is labeled by Rhapsody as a funk rock band. The term funk rock does not imply boring to me, but that's exactly what this album is. It's short at eight tracks and so at least it doesn't drag on, but there is something off about this album. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that these guys are a blast live, but on this album they seem to have no energy. It makes me think of Royal Crescent Mob's first album. Maybe there is just something about funk rock bands not translating very well to vinyl.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.
It is a happy thing to think about Royal Crescent Mob's first album. It reminds me of the smell of the inside of your red pickup truck.
