I like the opening track on this album "Strapped Up." At the core of rap since it was created is the self promotion component. The rapper is the top dog, the king of the street, the best rapper, the best lover, etc. You get the idea. This album is essentially 18 tracks of this kind of stuff. This has been so played it's rare that you hear a song with this as the theme and find it the least bit interesting, but I do like the opening track. It's fast and dark with a great beat. Problem is the next 17 tracks just don't deliver this same energy.
Truth is though there is a market for this thematic style of rap out there. And if the whole king of the street thing is your deal, then I would at least give this album a try. There are some tracks that are real throwaways, but the album's sound creates a definite mood and so I could see putting this on while driving around at night right after you've been dumped.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.
