I know nothing about the gospel music scene, but I was moved a few years ago by Chapman's album Beauty Will Rise, which was his response to dealing with the grief of losing his daughter. That was a smart and insightful album coming from someone who was obviously forced to look deep inside themselves to understand their faith.
I'm guessing that Chapman also took a hard look at his past work, because this latest album is a collection of four new tracks and nine remakes. The approach here is simple and with these remakes Chapman has stripped away much of the production and made these songs much more personal in nature. Even if you aren't a big gospel music fan you can appreciate how good Chapman is and it's no wonder he's at the top of the gospel world.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
I like that song, which reminded me of this from The Onion.

Other people like this song, too.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and daughter gave me Steven Curtis Chapman's Cracker Barrel CD of hymns. I like it a great deal. I think this is a beautiful version of "Blessed Assurance."
