If you were listening to the radio in 1977 you would have no doubt heard the big hit song from Ronnie Milsap, "What a Difference You've Made in My Life." Milsap hit it big in 1977 when he perfectly blended country with the soft pop sound of the time. Milsap almost completely abandoned the country sound with his hit songs, but he was able to produce some very easy listening pop music.
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that Chris Young has completely stripped out his country sound. He still plays to a country audience for sure, but his smooth sounding country pop reminds me of those Milsap songs from 35 years ago. They are melodic ahead of being country and could easily cross into the realm of adult pop.
If you're in the mood for some adult country pop then give this a try. Even the throwaway redneck tune "Save Water, Drink Beer" feels more Jimmy Buffet than Hank Williams Jr.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
Thinking of Ronnie Milsap made me happy.
