Album Review: Come Back to Us by Release the Sunbird

There is a lot of subtle music out there today.  It's part of the whole post punk revival that's still holding on, heavily influenced by the subtleness of bands like Young Marble Giants.

Truth is though it's hard to be subtle without being boring.  Release the Sunbird, a solo project of Zach Rogue, fails to get over that boring hump.  The album has a nice sound and has a promising opening track, but soon your eight tracks in and realize you thought you were still listening to track number 2.

If you're single, late 20's, living in DC, it's summer, and you want to take a nap lying in the sun coming through your apartment window, this would be a great album to throw on for background.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.

  1. "Release the Sunbird" has now replaced "My Chemical Romance" as my favorite band name in your album reviews.

    Here's the current list:

    1. Release the Sunbird
    2. My Chemical Romance
    3. Foster the People

  2. in 15 years, my daughter is going to ask my opinions about the post-punk revival, and i'm going to have to admit that i was too busy reliving 1974 to pay attention.
