The Detroit Tigers won the American League Central in large part because of Justin Verlander, who went 24-5 and had one of the best records of any pitcher in recent years. But Verlander was not very good in Game 1 of the ALCS in Texas. He gave up 3 runs before rains came in the top of the 5th and delayed the proceedings for almost two hours. Detroit scored two runs during the delay to cut the Texas lead to one run, but neither team scored thereafter and the Rangers survived Verlander's start with a 3-2 victory.
National League Championship Series (Best of 7):
Milwaukee and St. Louis tied 0-0
American League Championship Series (Best of 7):
Texas leads Detroit 1-0
If we get a Rangers-Brewers World Series, it's going to feel like NBC lost its feed from whatever game they planned to show most of the country on the Game of the Week.
