Album Review: Modern Love by Matt Nathanson

If you are a mid 30's to mid 40's female I would say this album is aimed directly at you.  In fact the opening track starts with a riff taken straight from George Michael's "Faith," a purposeful move I would say to grab the aimed audience right from the start.

All in all it's a light airy album full of good hooks and upbeat melodies.  I could easily see my wife throwing this album on at home on a Saturday while she cleans the house and our daughter reads and plays.

Ever since the success of Jack Johnson's Curious George soundtrack there has been an explosion of male singer songwriters trying to match that success and find that audience.  That may not be fair to Nathanson who has been producing albums since 1993, but I don't have any doubt of his aim with this album.  In many ways I believe he succeeds where a lot of guys fail.  The album never lets down and he produces solid vocals throughout with his light airy voice.  If you have a wife who likes light pop then throw this album on and I think she'll be happy.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.

  1. Boy, if you hear your wife playing this record around the house, you better start working out and buying flowers more often.
