There are albums that if you look at them at the molecular level you think they sound good. Take any 30 seconds from any track and you'll think about how you like the sound. Then when you step back and you listen to the album in full you realize that all those nice moments don't add up to anything.
That is the case with this album. There are no bad moments and all and all the atmosphere and groove seem OK, but all in all it's just a bland experience. In fact it is very easy to get completely lost in the music and push it back to simply being background noise.
Still it's not bad if you have a thing for trip hop, which I do, it just doesn't do anything to make you remember it. If you are at home alone and you're wanting to get some Extra Innings played, this would be solid background music.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
I really like the names "Culture of Fear" and "Thievery Corporation."
ReplyDeleteI could see myself playing EI to this music.
Yeah the nice thing about this kind of music with something like playing EI is then years later if you hear a song off of the album it totally connects you back to EI and the games you were playing. Since the music itself has no real grasp it works out great.
