To me there is a big difference between a passionate fan base and a bunch of rowdy students who show up to your games, but I'm glad to see they had UK number 1.
I just don't believe anything Tipton writes. He is just so hostile to the UK fans, and is so determined to cause trouble for Calipari, that I just can't trust his reporting.
So in this piece, for example, I'm sure that there is a sense in which everything he wrote could be described as "true." In other words, I don't think he makes up quotes or does anything that could get him in trouble with the LHL. But I don't trust the tone of the piece, I don't think the stuff he emphasizes was necessarily all that important in context, and so forth. I also think every sentence was written with an eye toward creating as much controversy as possible. I've seen him do this for at least 15 years, and I've just learned to disregard him.
One thing's for sure: Tipton will miss Bruce Pearl. He loved that guy.
I generally agree with Matthew on the whole Duke thing. But I will say that I have known some Duke alums who were really smart and thoughtful fans. In fact, I would say that good Duke fans are among the best fans in college basketball. But I don't know how many of those kids jumping up and down are actually good fans.

ReplyDeleteI found this story, about the so-called "so-called Kentucky Effect," to be just dripping in intrigue.
