Oh, Kentucky

Crushing news out of Owensboro. Crushing. Get well soon, Miss Greenwell.

Whoa, Kentucky.

Kicker David Akers, formerly of Lexington Tates Creek High School and not the University of Kentucky, reportedly bought donuts for his new 49ers teammates on Saturday. Then he went out on Sunday and starred for both San Francisco and www.HeathPost.com.

"Probably the most perfect thing of its kind in the South." The South?

The Kentucky Historical Society has a busy Saturday of commemorating ahead, with ceremonies planned in Bardstown, Knottsville and Louisville.

It turns out I really am more suited for the marketing/PR world than I ever was the journalism world, because the concept of brand ownership really intrigues me.

Church and state, rubber and road.

God and country, guns and "Grandbud."

  2. I caught just a little of Joe B & Denny this morning, and I just want to record for myself a snippet of a story that Joe B told ...

When he was the coach at Shepherdsville High School, a 6-foot-6 transferred in and joined the basketball team. Coach Hall was using him sparingly early in the season, and he happened into a barbershop where the barber and some other patron apparently didn't recognize him. Maybe it was his first season. Anyway, the barber launched in to an attack about how the coach would have an easier time of it if he'd just have the offense toss the ball inside to the new 6-6 kid and have him turn around and score short baskets.

  3. He didn't really say, or at least I didn't really understand what he did say. He said the defenses really concentrated on taking this option away, and I guess his point was that it's that sort of thing that it's tough for fans to recognize ... we might be able to see if something that does happen works or doesn't, but we can't really get into visibility into what doesn't occur and why.
