More drama over the Wild Cards last night. In the American League, the struggling Bosox held off the Orioles 8-7, while Tampa Bay beat the Yankees 5-3. So with one game left in the season, those two teams remained tied for the Wild Card:
Boston: 90-71
Tampa Bay: 90-71
In the National League, the Braves lost again -- getting pounded by the Phillies 7-1 in Atlanta. The Cardinals hammered the dis-Astros 13-6. So those teams are also tied:
Atlanta: 89-72
St. Louis: 89-72
If the Red Sox and Devil Rays finish in a tie, they will play a one-game tiebreaker in Tampa tomorrow. If Atlanta finishes in a tie with St. Louis, those two teams will meet tomorrow in a one-game playoff in St. Louis.
Oh, and there was heartbreak for the Nats, who were beaten by their arch-nemesis, the Florida Marlins, 3-2 on a walk-off home run in the ninth. The loss drops the Nats to 79-81 with one game left, and thereby ensures that Natstown will suffer its sixth consecutive losing season.
Great stuff, GoHeath. Your reports have kept me interested in the baseball season.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the Nats, though.
ReplyDeleteYeah sorry about the Nats.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool ... 10:33 Central, and here's the sitch, per MLB.com:

That's a heck of a last day.
