Cycling Update: 2011 UCI Road World Championships

Mark Cavendish has been the best sprinter in the world for the last three years, and so when the World's course was announced and it looked like the kind of race that would come to a sprint finish he was immediately made the favorite.  He delivered with a perfect turn of speed which no one could answer.

The United States had pinned all of their hopes on Tyler Farrar, but he hadn't raced since crashing out of the Vuelta a Espana, so it was no surprise that he could only manage a 10th place.

Here were the final metal standings.

Great Britain 2G, 2S, 2B
Australia 2G, 1S, 2B
Germany 2G, 3B
France 2G, 1S
