It's too early to comment on all of the many rumors floating around about changes to our beloved SEC, as well as a bunch of other conferences that we don't like very much. Having said that, it's not too early to make the following comments:
1. The current chaos was caused, almost entirely, by the fact that the University of Texas has not been a good neighbor to its fellow members of the Big XII.
2. I consider the argument about whether the SEC is better than the Big XII to have been permanently settled in the SEC's favor.
3. I'm really glad UK never listened to the folks on the UK message board who used to argue that the Wildcats should leave the SEC and join the ACC.
4. If Kansas, Kansas St., Missouri, and Iowa State are forced to build a conference on their own, I think they should invite the following schools to join them: Louisville, Cincinnati, Western Kentucky, Memphis, TCU, SMU, Houston, and Rice. Personally, I would watch that conference more than I ever watched the Big XII.
5. I wish the SEC didn't have to expand at all. If the SEC does expand, however, my top two choices for new membership would be Tulane and Georgia Tech -- since they were both members in the past. My guess is that it will not work out that way.
It does seem that in football we are heading toward four really powerful 16 team conferences.
ReplyDeletePersonally if they are going to go this route in football I wish they would just fully embrace it. Setup two levels and introduce relegation.
Hear, hear.
ReplyDeleteOf course, what I really wish is that they each of the 50 states had its own conference.
