Like so many of the punk pop bands that turn 30, these guys now sound much more like power pop than punk pop. It's an easy transition to make for these bands and it fits their age much better so all in all it's a good move. These guys have not fully moved in Weezer mode with half their songs looking back at their youth, but there is definitely signs of change. Their songs about relationships are more humorous than angry and they did throw in the Weezer special a song about music and how important it's been in their life.
This album is full of hooks and never slows down and feels full of energy. So for a power pop album it meets all the requirements and it's not bad. I've easily listened to this album five or six times and never skipped a song.
So if you've been caught up in rainy days for a while and the suns now come out and you want to get out and take a drive with the windows down I think this would be a good pick for an album to play.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
Male-female shared vocals is not a model explored nearly often enough in guitar music.
