I like the opening track on this album, but that's it for me. All the interest that I have for that opening is lost as the album muddles its way through the remaining nine tracks which seems to take forever. Justin Vernon is trying to create a world here but it just doesn't ever seem to form. The pace, the music, his vocals, it all seems to blend together into a mush instead of a musical space where I want to be. Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.
Wow ... the second this video came up, I immediately remembered Godley and Creme's "Cry," which I don't believe I had thought of or heard in at least 15 years.
