I love electropop. My last two picks for album of the year were both electropop albums. Those albums were full of great hooks, soul searching lyrics, and great vocal performances. This album by contrast has few hooks, bland lyrics, and flat vocals from Adam Young, who is Owl City.
That may sound a bit harsh, but this album just seems to float by. Oddly I still think of it as not being a bad album, just a very bland album. If you want something light and airy to put on while you paint the house on a sunny spring day I could see this being a good fit.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Matthew!
I thought a lot of excellent songs of this ilk--technically precise, guitar-driven, lyrically clever, loud--came out in the late 1990s. Here's one.
