Emma Talley is about as fortunate in her draws as the men's basketball team at Western Kentucky. At the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship last month, her round-of-32 match was against Dottie Ardina of the Philippines. Ardina won a low-scoring match, beating Talley 2 up, and then went all the way to the final before losing 2 & 1 to Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand.
Now Talley has reached the round of 32 in the U.S. Women's Amateur. And her opponent is none other than Danielle Kang of Westlake Village, California. Kang, who plays for Pepperdine University, just happens to be the defending U.S. Women's Amateur champion. Furthermore, this is apparently Kang's last tournament before she turns pro. So Talley will have her hands full tomorrow. On the other hand, she has played well all summer, so it should be an excellent match.
I was at a meeting this afternoon, and a man there told me that he had heard from some woman that Emma Talley will be playing her college golf for the University of Alabama. I wonder if this is a Heath Post exclusive.
ReplyDeleteSadly, it is not. Talley's commitment to Alabama was reported by GolfWeek in November. GolfWeek also reported that Talley was the number one women's golfer in the class of 2012. So that match between her and Kang is really a big deal.
