Miss Emma Talley, the pride of Caldwell County, shot 70+68=138 (4 under par) in two qualifying rounds at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship on the Rhode Island Country Club. She easily qualified for medal play with the fourth-best overall score. She was also Low American.
At 10:20 AM EDT today, she will take on Shu-Yin Liu of Taiwan in the Round of 64. As always, the Heath Post will follow her progress.
Emma Talley has opened with three pars in a row, while her opponent has made two bogeys. So Talley is two up through three holes.
ReplyDeleteTalley won the fourth and fifth holes to go four up. She lost the eighth to a birdie, but then won the 9th and 10th holes to go five up. From there on she cruised, closing out the match on the 15th hole for a 5 and 3 victory.
ReplyDeleteSo Talley has moved on to the round of 32. Her next match will be a 8:10 A.M. (EDT) tomorrow. More on her opponent once we know who it will be.
HURRAH! Princeton, represent!
ReplyDeleteShe may already be the best athlete in Princeton history.
ReplyDeleteJim Pickens, Greg Smith and Dwight Smith would factor prominently in that conversation, too.
ReplyDeleteVery good point. I did not know the Smith brothers were from Princeton. She still has a long way to go.
ReplyDeleteSomeone should write a book about Western Kentucky basketball from around 1961 to 1971. Each year seems more dramatic than the last. I knew about what happened to WKU in 1966, but I didn't know about that 1967 season and the loss to Dayton.
