After the death of Joy Division's front man the band quickly disbanded only to regroup as New Order. What makes New Order so interesting is that they would go on to become just as unique, influential, and historically important as Joy Division. It's hard enough to find success once, but to do it twice seems almost impossible.
Power, Corruption & Lies was the band's second album and the first to really define their sound. Currently it sits at number 47 on the Best of the 80's list. If you want an introduction to New Order it's as good a place to start as any. Though their sound would become a bit more polished the formula for New Order is all here.
Dance is at the core of New Order so this is a good album to play while cleaning the house on a day when you feel like moving to the beat.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.
Little reminds me more of windows-open, still-80-degrees-past-midnight, no-lights-on, sweaty dancing in a Bowling Green, $300-a-month-split-three-ways apartment than the sound of that guy's drumming.
ReplyDeleteI love the shot of the drummer early on. The speed at which he's playing is incredible. A time before drum machines.
ReplyDeleteI had the same reaction.
