There are two primary types of gospel music out there today. The first is straight up gospel. It doesn't hide what it is. The second is gospel music that mimics popular music. A Wheezer rip off a Toni Braxton rip off, etc. Trin-i-tee falls in the mimicking category and here is where the problems begin and end for me.
Do they do a good job of making a modern day R&B album? Yes, in fact better than the last Toni Braxton album by far. Does the gospel message of the album get lost in the mimicking of popular music? Yes. This music is trying so hard to not sound like gospel that you could easily find yourself picking a song off of hear for a make out tape and not even notice your mistake. There is something wrong with that.
In essence they have tried so hard to disguise the fact that this is gospel music it has ceased to be gospel music.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.

ReplyDeleteMatthew is neither lame nor delusional, but Anonymous brings up a long-bantered question amid the hating.
