In retrospect, there was a huge sequence late yesterday. Seo was 4 under and looking at a very short putt for par on 17. Ryu was 2 under and looking at a very long putt for par on 15. It looked as though Seo would soon have a three-shot lead. But she missed her little putt, while Ryu made her long putt, cutting Seo's lead to one.
Ryu makes a great bunker shot, and now it looks as though she will save par on 16.
ReplyDeleteKerr's third shot on the par-5 17th runs onto the collar of the green. She is two behind Seo, so she will have to make that shot to have a chance.
ReplyDeleteRyu's tee shot on 17 is in the fairway.
ReplyDeleteRyu's second shot on 17 goes down the middle.
ReplyDeleteKerr gave it a pretty decent run, but her birdie putt from the fringe on 17 misses, so she is two behind with only one hole left.
ReplyDeleteIt's all up to Ryu now.
Ryu's third shot on 17 comes up about 20 feet from the hole. She will have a very decent shot for a birdie to tie Seo.
ReplyDeleteStanford holes a long birdie putt on 16 to get to 1 under par. Now she just needs two more birdies.
ReplyDeleteHere we go. Ryu lines up her birdie putt on 17, strokes it firm, has exactly the right speed -- and it just barely misses.
ReplyDeleteShe taps in for par and now she must birdie the last hole -- which is also the hardest hole on the course.
Ryu hits a perfect drive on 18.
ReplyDeleteCristie Kerr did not hole out from the fairway on 18, so she is finally eliminated.
Ryu makes a fantastic shot on 18, and the ball rolls to less than 10 feet from the pin. She will have that for a tie.
ReplyDeleteOver on 17, Stanford puts her approach shot in birdie range as well. Could she make a second consecutive birdie?
Stanford cannot make a second consecutive birdie. Her putt rolls just past the hole, and she is two behind with one to play.
ReplyDeleteBut Ryu nails her birdie putt on 18! She knocks it straight into the hole in Tiger-like fashion to tie Seo at 3 under par.
ReplyDeleteThe tournament will now be decided by a three-hole playoff between Seo and Ryu, once all of the other golfers on the course are finished.

ReplyDeleteAnd so here we are.
NBC just asked Ryu how she managed to deal with the pressure, and she said that on every hole she prays to Jesus and God.
ReplyDeleteI bet Stanford wished they had called play earlier yesterday.
