Up until 1965, the two major U.S.G.A. championships -- the U.S. Open and the U.S. Women's Open -- were played over three days. You played 18 holes on Thursday, 18 holes on Friday, and 36 holes on Saturday. The 36 holes on Saturday were a considered to be a big part of the test; the U.S.G.A. wanted to measure your durability as well as your skill. Anyway, they don't do that anymore -- at least not on purpose. But this year, the weather conditions in Colorado Springs have been so poor that the U.S. Women's Open was only able to complete two rounds in the first three days. So the ladies are scheduled to play 36 holes today -- weather, of course, permitting.
This has played havoc with the TV schedule; as far as I can tell, the tournament isn't on anywhere right now. But we can still follow online. Here is where things stand as of 11:30 MDT:
1. A. Miyazoto (JPN): -3 (47 h0les)
2. M. Miyazoto (JPN): -2 (47)
3. R. O'Toole: -1 (48)
T4. H.K. Seo (KOR): Even (53)
T4. I. Park (KOR): Even (52)
T4. S.Y. Ryu (KOR): Even (50)
T4. C. Kerr: Even (50)
T4. P. Creamer: Even (49)
T4. A. Stanford: Even (49)
