National League 5 - 1 American League (2011 All-Star Game)

I was very excited to see that my beloved National Leaguers won the All-Star Game last night for the second year in a row. I was even more excited to see that for the second year in a row, the winning pitcher came from Natstown.

As you might expect with the Nats, there was something a bit strange about the whole thing. In the top of the fourth inning, with the AL leading 1-0 and with AL runners on first and second, Tyler Clippard (Natstown!) came into the game to pitch for the NL. Naturally, he promptly gave up a single to left field. But the left fielder then threw out an AL runner at the plate to end the inning.

Clippard was replaced in the top of the 5th and thus gave up a hit to the only batter he faced. But in the bottom of the 4th, with Clippard still technically the pitcher of record, Prince Fielder hit a 3-run homer to give the NL a lead that it never gave up. So Clippard counts as the winning pitcher.

NATSTOWN!
