Album Review: Codes and Keys by Death Cab for Cutie

Codes and KeysIf you like Death Cab for Cutie then I would say pick this album up.  It's more upbeat than their past albums as family life and age seems to be mellowing the guys out, but they still construct solid pop songs with catchy hooks.

This album is a bit more textured than their past stuff, but it feels more influenced by Tunnel of Love than The Joshua Tree.  There is a move away from the guitar and toward keyboards, and more work to create a sound and mood for their songs than in previous work.

All in all it's a solid album and I could see listening to this throughout the summer as a soundtrack.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.

  1. Hearing this Death Cab for Cutie song is a lot like getting to see Dave Winfield in the 1976 (or whatever) All-Star Game ... always heard about how great he was, had never seen him play.
