More Mush from the LHL

Speaking of our friends at the LHL, this is just pathetic. Here is the background:

1. The University of Kentucky and its basketball fans have been angry at the NCAA for alleged bias and other unfair actions since at least the 1950's.

2. The hostility from UK fans has generally been met with hostility from NCAA officials and their supporters in the media.

3. This ancient feud has blown up again with the NCAA's silly ruling that UK was wrong to celebrate Coach Calipari's 500th career win -- given that some of Calipari's wins were vacated by the NCAA.

4. The LHL is also involved in the controversy, because LHL beat writer and long-time Kentucky-basher Jerry Tipton started beating the drums over Calipari's vacated wins back in March.

Because of these facts, John Clay -- the one columnist at the LHL who doesn't seem to openly hate UK and its fans -- has been forced to write something about the long-time UK/NCAA feud. Here is his conclusion: "When it comes to powerful entities operating in a much-watched fishbowl, both {UK and the NCAA} are guilty as charged. Conflicts are unavoidable. Resolution is a sticky wicket."

Thank you, John Clay, for that compelling argument. In other news, John Lennon says that we should "give peace a chance" and Rodney King asks why don't we all just get along.

It seems to me that the point of writing a column on a controversial subject is so you can take a stand on that subject -- not merely whine about how "conflicts are unavoidable" and "resolution is a sticky wicket." I realize that Clay may want to be careful and avoid giving any comfort to the UK fans who are currently trying to get Tipton fired. But honestly, if this is the best he can do, he should have skipped the whole issue and just written something about the Reds.

One thing is for sure: the next time UK fans want to read something written in their defense, by someone who appreciates and approves of the passion of Kentucky fans, they certainly won't be picking up the LHL.

(Oh, and the headline for this post is a reference to this famous headline.)
