This sister trio has followed up their 2008 debut with a four track Christmas EP and now a six track EP of original music.
It's a solid set of songs following along the Dixie Chick path of country music. The interesting move here is the possible shift of the band to a single female front with Emily Robertson taking on the lead singer role and lead songwriter role for the band.
These guys are heading down a tough road. As you can tell from the album cover the looks of the sisters are being heavily sold as part of the package, but it's obvious listening to this collection of songs that they are trying to grasp their sound and their voice as a group. In other words they are looking to be seen as serious artists and that balancing act between being a serious artist and being the poster girl your label wants is a tough one.
If you want to hear some solid harmonized country pop then give this a try.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
This song really never goes anywhere, and her voice sounds very generic. I can see why they're being promoted mainly on the basis of their looks.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that the Dixie Chicks are back.
