All of a sudden, Man Utd has let Chelsea back in the race. United lost 1-0 at Arsenal yesterday, allowing Chelsea to draw within 3 points with only three games left. Chelsea's been on a roll, winning five games in a row -- including a 2-1 victory over Spurs on Sunday that may have doomed Spurs' chances to qualify for the Champions' League. So next Sunday's game in Manchester between United and Chelsea will probably be the title-decider. Meanwhile, Man City has rode back-to-back wins over Blackburn and West Ham to open up some room in the race for fourth place:
1. Man Utd: 21-4-10 (73 pts)
2. Chelsea: 21-7-7 (70 pts)
3. Arsenal: 19-6-10 (67 pts)
4. Man City: 18-8-8 (62 pts)
5. Liverpool: 16-12-7 (55 pts) (goal difference of 15)
6. Spurs: 14-7-13 (55 pts) (goal difference of 7)
What's going on with Liverpool this year?
ReplyDeleteWell, it's really been a tale of two seasons for them. You may recall that they got off to a terrible start. But on January 8, 2011, they sacked their manager and brought back Kenny Dalgliesh. Dalgliesh was a Liverpool legend -- one of their greatest players who took over as a player-manager in the late 80s and won Liverpool's last three titles. He also managed Blackburn Rovers to the 1994-95 title and took Newcastle Utd to a second-place finish in 1996-97. But he hasn't managed anywhere since he had a bad experience at Celtic in 2000.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, since Dalgliesh took over the Reds have gone 9-3-3 to pull themselves into fifth place. Here are some of their recent results:
Feb 6: Chelsea 0 - 1 Liverpool
Mar 6: Liverpool 3 - 1 Man Utd
Apr 11: Liverpool 3 - 0 Man City
Apr 17: Arsenal 1 - 1 Liverpool
And in their last two games they beat Birmingham 5-0 and Newcastle Utd 3-0. So they've been on a very nice roll here at the end of the year.
What happened with their ownership issues?
ReplyDeleteThey're now owned by the same people who own the Red Sox.
