The Heat and the Mavs each wrapped up their conference championships in only five games. Then nothing happened over the long Memorial Day weekend, and now here we are in the finals.
With 11 minutes to go in the fourth quarter of Game 1 of the NBA finals, the Heat (who are at home) lead the Mavs 68-63. So far, the Heat have held Dirk Nowitzki to 19 points, and the Mavs need more than that from him.
So far, neither of these teams have had much trouble in the playoffs -- and they have both been dominant in the fourth quarter. This game could set a tone for the rest of the series -- especially if the Mavs can come back and win.
Heat 68 - 66 Mavs (9:20 left in 4th quarter)
ReplyDeleteHeat 70 - 66 Mavs (8:38 left in 4th quarter)
ReplyDeleteHeat are on a 17-6 run.
Heat 74 - 69 Mavs (6:36 left in 4th quarter)
ReplyDeleteHeat just look a little quicker to the ball -- as they have done throughout the playoffs.
Heat 75 - 70 Mavs (4:35 left in 4th quarter)
ReplyDeleteNot much going on. The Heat have outscored the Mavs 10-9 so far in the fourth quarter.
This is pretty much what the NBA is like these days. You get to the fourth quarter, and the game is just a brutal physical scramble. Under these circumstances, the Mavs are either going to hit a bunch of three's, or they will lose.
Heat 82 - 73 Mavs (3:06 left in 4th quarter)
ReplyDeleteHuge sequence by Dwayne Wade, who is actually my favorite player in the NBA. With the score 77-73, he makes a spectacular bounce pass between two Mavs to set up Chris Bosh, who is fouled and makes two FTs. 79-73.
Then Wade goes to the other end and blocks a shot and scoops up the ball.
Then Wade goes back on offense and nails a 3 to give him 22 points (along with 8 rebounds) for the game. 82-73. So long. Thanks for playing.
Heat 85 - 77 Mavs (1:38 left in 4th quarter)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Juwan Howard scored two points for the Heat in this game. By checking into tonight's game, he became the only member of Michigan's Fab Five ever to appear in the NBA Finals.
Heat 92 - 84 Mavs (Final)
ReplyDeleteThat was pretty easy.
The Celtics beat the Bucks for the 1973-74 NBA title. I knew almost nothing about that season, in which the "Capital Bullets" began playing in Landover, Md.; games started appearing on CBS, and the all-rookie team was Ernie DiGregorio, Nick Weatherspoon, Mike Bantom, John Brown and Ron Behagen.
