The Best of the Worst

Treasure Island (Oxford World's Classics)I was reading Treasure Island recently and got to thinking about the best bad guys in fiction or film. Here's a list of who I quickly thought of.

1. Long John Silver
2. Darth Vader
3. Tuco (The Ugly in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly)
4. Emilio Largo (Thunderball baddie)
5. Tom Riddle
6. Two Face
7. The Joker
8. Frank (Henry Fonda in Once Upon a Time in the West)
9. Dr. Hannibal Lecter
10. Gaston (Disney's Beauty and the Beast)

I'd be curious to know who you think is the best bad guy.

  3. The safety inspector in Ghostbusters (that same actor was great in a great Goldie Hawn movie that Stephen Spielberg directed, about a low-speed car chase in Texas).

  4. Ben Stiller's character in that movie with Ethan Hawke and Wynona Rider and Judd Nelson's in Saint Elmo's Fire.

  6. George C. Scott in Dr. Strangelove.

Two very scary characters: Robert Blake in In Cold Blood and Tommy Lee Jones in Executioner's Song.
