Album Review: Helplessness Blues by Fleet Foxes

Helplessness BluesI don't think I could come up with a better term than baroque pop to define this band's sound.  A lot of acoustics and harmonies layer the sound of this album.

It's a pleasant sounding album and isn't bad, but there is something about this album that doesn't work for me.  I'm not sure what it is exactly but by the third song it seems like I've been listening to the album for 2 hours and I'm a bit bored with it.  The songs are paced and calculated and in some ways that takes away from the earthy feel of their folk sound.

Still if you like folk music, harmonies, bluegrass, any of those things I would suggest giving these guys a listen to see what you think.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
