Album Review: The Book of David by DJ Quik

The Book Of David [Explicit]Fair or not I hold rap to a different standard than most popular music.  You can have a good rock album or pop album that does not have good lyrics, but I don't believe you can have a good rap album that doesn't have solid lyrics.  Let's face it the entire album revolves around someone talking.  So no matter how great the beats and the sound, in the end the album lives and dies by the MC and his/her ability to write.

Too often in rap there are MC's who choose to go create sexual or violent imagery and not bother with constructing any real lyrical meaning.  This particular album has way too many of these moments for me.  I love the sound of this album, but when I focus in and listen to DJ Quik, I'm disappointed by what I'm hearing.

Like I said the sound is great and you could easily find some tracks on here to go onto a workout mix.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.
