OK, we're now about four games into the first round of the NBA playoffs. Here's where things stand so far (teams with a chance to win the NBA title are in bold):
EAST
Bulls 3 - 1 Pacers
Magic 1 - 3 Hawks
Celtics 4 - 0 Knicks
Heat 3 - 1 76ers
WEST
Spurs 1 - 3 Grizzlies
Thunder 3 - 1 Nuggets
Mavericks 3 - 2 Trail Blazers
Lakers 2 - 2 Hornets
So the Celtics have already advanced, the Bulls and Heat are in very good shape. The big story, of course, is that the Spurs are in quite a bit of trouble. They got smoked last night -- 104 to 86 -- and they may just be too old to hold off the Grizzlies. Anyway, at this point that series is worth watching, so you might want to tune in Wednesday night to see game 5.
The Lakers-Hornets series is also worth watching, even though the Lakers are going to win, because it is just a joy to watch Chris Paul (the Hornets' point guard). He is truly one of the most underrated players in the game. He won game 4 pretty much by himself thanks to a wonderful triple double. Plus Kobe's playing with a sprained ankle. Game 5 in that series is tonight.
Last year Paul wasn't the same, he was recovering from knee surgery. He was better this year, but fell under the radar with all the James, Anthony talk. He's really popped up in the playoffs playing the best he has in two years. He's looking for a new team and we all know Dwight Howard's going to be looking for a new team, so those will be big stories next year.
ReplyDeleteI did not know Dwight Howard was going to be looking for a new team. This excites me because it will presumably clear the Orlando decks for Daniel Orton.
