McIlroy four-putts 12, to follow up his three-putt on 11, and he is now 5 under. He played the three holes of Amen Corner with scores of 7, 5, and 5. He was six over par for those three holes. I thought Augusta would identify him as a champion, but instead it has identified him as something else. Here is the current scoreboard:
T1. T. Woods: -10 (70 holes)
T1. G. Ogilvy (AUS): -10 (70)
T1. J. Day (AUS): -10 (67)
T1. A. Scott (AUS): -10 (67)
T1. C. Schwartzel (RSA): -10 (67)
T6. K.J. Choi (KOR): -9 (66)
T6. A Cabrera (ARG): -9 (66)
Scott and Day have great birdie chances on 14, either of which would put them in the lead.
ReplyDeleteScott goes first, still using that silly long putter, and he makes it!
For the 9 millionth time this weekend, CBS reminds us that no Australian has ever won the Masters.
ReplyDeleteNow Day for his birdie try. He just misses.
ReplyDeleteTiger saves par on 17 with one of those little putts that has been killing him. Given that the other leaders still get to play 15, he has to birdie the last hole to have a chance at victory.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I find these commercials on AP math and science classes to be incredibly depressing.
ReplyDeleteBo Van Pelt ties Tiger for Low American. He follows up his eagle on 13 with an eagle on 15 to move to 10 under par.
ReplyDeleteScott bangs his drive on 15 out into the fairway. If he can birdie here, he can take control of the tournament.
ReplyDeleteCabrera fails to birdie 13, and he remains at 9 under.
Current leaderboard:
ReplyDelete1. A. Scott: -11 (14)
T2. T. Woods: -10 (17)
T2. G. Ogilvy: -10 (16)
T2. B. Van Pelt: -10 (15)
T2. J. Day: -10 (14)
T2. C. Schwartzel: -10 (13)
We haven't even said much about Geoff Ogilvy. All he's done is birdie 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 to move to within a shot of the lead.
ReplyDeleteOgilvy's run of birdies ends when he goes into a greenside bunker on 17. But he gets up and down to save par.
ReplyDeleteTiger's approach shot on 18 reaches the green, but he is a long way from the hole.
ReplyDeleteThis is not over.
ReplyDeleteAdam Scott, who was standing in the middle of the fairway on 15 with an easy shot to the green, suddenly skies his shot well off into the crowd on the right.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen anything like this.
Schwartzel made a great birdie putt on 14, but it comes up just short. After his freakish start, he has made 10 pars in a row.

ReplyDelete"I smell a playoff coming. What a logjam at 10-under. If Tiger can get into the clubhouse at 11-under, the others may fold.

Jason Day hit a terrible drive on 15, and is forced to punch out from the trees.
ReplyDeleteLUKE DONALD?!?
ReplyDeleteAnd Luke Donald, after going into the water on 12, has birdied 13, 15, and 16 to get back to 10 under. So the European challenge is still on!
ReplyDeleteLuke Donald is my bosses favorite golfer, so I'm rooting for him.
ReplyDeleteDay's third shot on 15 bounds through the green.
ReplyDeleteYou should have seen Donald in that silly pink and green outfit he had yesterday. He should lose just for that.
ReplyDeleteFinally, Tiger is going to hit his enormous birdie putt on 18. It's never close and it rolls three feet past.
ReplyDeleteBo Van Pelt bogeys the 16th to fall back to 9 under.
ReplyDeleteTiger makes the three-footer coming back for par on 18. He goes out in 31, comes home in 36, and finishes with a 67. He is the leader in the clubhouse at 10 under par and -- thanks to Bo Van Pelt's bogey -- he will probably finish as Low American.
ReplyDeleteGood putt by Tiger to get the par and leave the course tied for the lead.
ReplyDeleteNo telling what's going to happen here.
ReplyDelete"It's all experience"?
ReplyDeleteCabrera pars 14 to stay at 9 under.
ReplyDeleteOgilvy's approach shot on 18 skitters onto the green, but then rolls off. He will have to get up and down to tie Tiger in the clubhouse.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how Tiger will react to this tournament. Will he think that he's basically back, or will he worry that those short putts are always going to get him?
ReplyDeleteAdam Scott pitched onto the 15th green, but he could not make birdie.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting a new thread.
