The Masters -- Friday -- 3 PM

McIlroy still cruising along. Geoff Ogilvy has suddenly zipped up to third. Couples is tied for best round of the day. Ricky Fowler is now challenging for Low American:

1. R. McIlroy (NIR): -9 (25 holes)
2. K.J. Choi (KOR): -8 (34)
3. G. Ogilvy (AUS): -6 (33)
T4. Y.E. Yang (KOR): -5 (36)
T4. R. Barnes: -5 (36)
T4. F. Couples: -5 (36)
T4. A. Quiros (ESP): -5 (32)
T4. R. Fowler: -5 (25)

Mickelson is still 2 under through 15. Woods has started bogey-birdie-bogey, so he is back to even for the tournament. We're going to have to watch him all afternoon, and it will be one of the most depressing things you'll see on TV all year.

6 comments:

  1. Choi had a six-foot putt for birdie on the 18th hole, but ended up three-putting for a birdie. He finishes the day at 7 under, and he will really regret that last hole.

  2. Mickelson finishes with a 72 for the day. He is at 2 under after two rounds, and we can safely say that he will not successfully defend his Masters title.

  3. Meanwhile, McIlroy has birdied the 9th and parred the 10th to move to 10 under and open up a 3-shot lead on the "pelaton" -- to steal a phrase from the Guardian's Masters blog. If McIlroy could shoot something like 32 or 33 on the back nine -- and that seems very possible, considering how he is playing -- he could just about wrap things up today.

  4. Here's one for the legend of Rory McIlroy. On 11, he sends his drive well off into the trees -- but it hits a trunk and bounces back into the fairway, some 250 yards from the green. He bangs a long shot toward the 11th green and it looks as though it is heading toward the water next to the green -- but it lands on the green and skirts right around the water. Now he is putting for birdie.

  5. Meanwhile, Woods three-putts the seventh hole to drop back to even for the tournament, and we can safely say that he is done.

Tiger can talk about his swing all he wants, but he will never win another tournament -- much less another major -- unless he somehow regains his putting touch.

  6. After getting to 5 under, Fowler has bogeyed 10 and is in the process of bogeying 11, so he will not appear on the 4 PM leaderboard. A lot of folks are enthusiastic about Fowler's potential, but I am just not seeing it. To me, he looks like the American version of Ian Poulter.
