Best of the 80's: The Real Thing by Faith No More

The Real Thing (US DMD)The 80's in many ways were all about blending sounds and Faith No More was right there blending metal, funk, and rap.  A heavier sound than the Chili Peppers, this 1989 release, their third studio album, threw them on the bigger stage with their hit song "Epic."

This album comes in at number 87 on the Best of the 80's list and is a bit all over the place, and yet it all works together to create a coherent album.  I was never the biggest Faith No More fan, but hearing them now it's funny to think of how their sound influenced a host of bands that followed.

This is a hard driving album and so you have to be in the right frame of mind to enjoy it, and honestly if you're in the right frame of mind I'm not sure you're enjoying much of anything.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.

  1. This song reminds me of the smell of rotting tomatoes and onions in discarded fast-food bags under the seats of my burnt-orange Buick Skylark.

    So does this one.
