Unlike the Van Halen album I reviewed as part of the Best of the 70's list which was pure rock, this album stretched to be a rock/pop mix, especially the hit single "Jump."
This album sits at number 76 on the Best of the 80's list. I despised this album when it came out in 1984 and it's hard to get past that stuff now and just listen to the album as a reviewer. So I'll just say I still don't care for this album. That being said I have to acknowledge how impressive it is that they were able to construct an album that would not lose their hard rock fans, but still manage to bridge over to a mainstream audience. That's tough to do and proves what skills these guys had as a band.
If you are making an 80's pop music mix tape, it seems to me you'd have to include something off of here.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.
Voted favorite album by Heath High School's seniors in both the 1984 and '85 Pirata yearbooks. Breaking Van Halen's grip in 1986? Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA.
ReplyDeleteDavid Lee Roth probably would have been a very successful game show host. In fact, that may yet happen.
ReplyDeleteIn law school, my roommate loved to say "I brought my pennnn-cilll -- give me something to write on." He said that all the time.
