Best of the 70's: Marquee Moon by Television

Marquee MoonIf you hear critics talk about R.E.M., The Replacements, The Feelies, etc. you will no doubt hear comments about Big Star and Television.  Amazingly to me no Big Star album is on this 100 album countdown, but this 1977 debut from Television comes in at number 16 on the Best of the 70's list.

I have to say for an album that is 34 years old it doesn't sound dated at all, and still sounds as fresh and unique as it did back in 1977.  It's an interesting blend of guitar rock, think Blue Oyster Cult, prog rock, think Pink Floyd, and pop.  Definitely creates its own sound, but when you listen to it you can hear the influences on bands like 10,000 Maniacs and The Violent Femmes.

A fairly moody sounding album I could see playing this when stuck working late.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.
