Album Review: Paper Airplane by Alison Krauss & Union Station

Paper AirplaneIt's been seven years since the last Alison Krauss & Union Station album, and they have come back with a very solid album.  It's quietly dark and we find a 40 year old Krauss singing better than ever.

She has learned to rely less on her amazing voice and bring more feeling and emotion into her performance and this is seen right off the bat with the opening "Paper Airplane."

This album is very similar to the Foo Fighters album for me.  Usually there is one track an album from these guys that is easily in my top five of the year, while the rest of the album is OK.  There is no such song on this album, but this is the best set of songs the group has ever put together and it's a very easy listen even if it is on the mellow side.

Tonight it will be cold and snowy here in Moscow, Idaho.  In the middle of spring everyone is starting to feel a bit worn down by this winter weather and it would be a great night to throw on this soft, sad album.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.

  1. I will certainly get this album, and it sounds like I will like it. But I wish they still did more fast songs like the ones on "So Long, So Wrong."
