Album Review: The Family Sign by Atmosphere

The Family Sign [Explicit]A concept album which revolves around family dynamics this album is quiet and dark and well constructed.  The album doesn't look at many of the positive aspects of family, but focuses on all the negatives from abuse, both physical and mental, to the collapse of love between spouses, siblings, and parent to child.

Ant does a brilliant job of constructing a soundtrack to the blunt and insightful lyrics of Slug.  At times the album feels a bit too blunt, but the musical soundtrack keeps the album moving, keeps the emotion working, and helps this album work.

This is a dark album but a good listen.  Definitely need to be in the right frame of mind otherwise it will be a bit too much, but if you want to hear some very smart and well constructed hip-hop this is a must listen.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.
