Billy Donovan, who has won two national championships and been to the national title game three times since 2000, finally won his first SEC Coach of the Year Award. I wouldn't look for Coach Cal to get this award any time soon.
The SEC player of the year award went to Chandler Parsons, presumably on the theory that the award had to go to someone from Florida. Parsons averaged 11.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. To put that in perspective, consider that Terrence Jones averaged 17.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
Jones did get the SEC freshman of the year award. A lot of people on the UK message board are upset that this award didn't go to Knight -- mainly because they just like Knight better than Jones. I actually like Jones a lot, and I think he is more valuable to UK than Knight, so this didn't bother me.
Knight did make the first-team all-SEC squad, while Jones, Knight, and Lamb all made the all-Freshman squad. That seems fair to me.
Here is the all-SEC team:
JaMychal Green, Alabama (F)
Chandler Parsons, Florida (F)
Trey Thompkins, Georgia (F)
Terrence Jones, Kentucky (F)
Brandon Knight, Kentucky (G)
Chris Warren, Ole Miss (G)
Scotty Hopson, Tennessee (G)
John Jenkins, Vanderbilt (G)
In my opinion, Parsons is by far the worst player on this list. But who can understand the inner workings on the SEC?
I picked an "Ole Miss Rebels" beer glass at a Salvation Army store yesterday.
