Bellarmine faces Minnesota State at 5 p.m. Central in today's NCAA Division II men's basketball semifinals. (So does West Liberty after the dude from Silver Grove scored 21 to lead the team to victory in the quarters yesterday.) The Knights' Scott Davenport coached Louisville Ballard to the 1988 KHSAA boys' basketball title.

"... His publicist, Melany Ethridge of A. Larry Ross Communications in Dallas, referred the Herald-Leader to Ham's Facebook page. ..."
Was that really the best picture they could come up with of Tony Maxwell.
ReplyDelete"Raintree County" is one of the great cursed epics of all time. The novel was written by a guy from Indiana named Ross Lockridge who killed himself the week that the book reached the top of the New York Times Best-Seller List. The movie -- which, as you can tell from the cast, was meant to be a VERY BIG DEAL -- never recovered from the fact that during filming, Montgomery Clift was almost killed in a terrible automobile accident. The movie was a flop. Montgomery Clift's career was never the same, and he died about 10 years later.
ReplyDeleteAll of this torment and anguish is discussed in "Shade of the Raintree," a biography of Ross Lockridge written by his son in the early 1990s. If you were ever the smartest kid in a provincial high school who grew up to marry a good woman and have four children who love you -- as was Ross Lockridge -- this is just about the saddest book of all time.
Very interesting. I didn't know any of this.
ReplyDeleteBellarmine 29, Minnesota State-Mankato 28, with 4:30 to go before half. Go, Knights!

ReplyDelete3:27 ... Bellarmine by three ... GO, KNIGHTS!
Bellarmine wins! 81-74 is the final, and the Knights will be in Saturday's championship game. West Liberty (with the high-scoring player from Silver Grove) and BYU-Hawai'i tip off momentarily in the second NCAA Divison II men's basketball semifinal.

ReplyDelete"So...Pikeville College won the NAIA championship. Bellarmine plays for the NCAA D-2 championship on Saturday. Its only fitting that UK wins.

Hooray for Louisville!
ReplyDeleteVideo's up with the WFIE story now.
ReplyDeleteKentucky Wesleyan is, of course, the traditional D-II power in the state. KWC has won 8 national titles, the most recent one in 2001. But this would be a great thing for Bellarmine.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how to post a link in a comment. Could someone please post a link to Barton's miraculous victory in the 2007 D-II title game against Winona State?
ReplyDeleteSilver Grove's Corey Pelle fouls out after contributing 32 points ... his West Liberty team trails Brigham Young-Hawai'i by eight with 41 seconds to play in tonight's second D-II men's semi.
