Last Night's Boys' Regional Scores

Eric did a good job last night of reminding us that for a lot of schools -- like Heath or Ballard Memorial -- making it to the regional semi-finals (a.k.a. the round of 64) is a huge deal. I've been following Heath since about 1979, and the Pirates have only made it to the regional semi-finals maybe 4 or 5 times during that period -- and they've never made it past the regional semi-finals. So congrats to the 24 teams who won last night, and condolences to the 24 losers. There are now 90 teams still playing for the title:

  1. On The Joe B. & Denny Show, coaches Crum and Hall just agreed that the one basketball skill to concentrate in teaching to very young boys and girls is ball-handling. "And shooting after that," Denny added.

"I remember there was a kid down in Henderson County who practiced dribbling when he was milking the cows," Joe B. said. "He'd dribble with his left hand when he was milking with his right, and he'd dribble with his right hand when he was milking with his left."

This conversation started with a caller who coaches 10-year-olds and asked the question. Now Joe B is going into a long, detailed review of different ball-handling drills that the youth coach might use.
