Another 1970 release this one sits at number 29 on the Best of the 70's list. This album is best known not for any particular songs, or for any particular style of music. This album is best known for the fact that John Lennon wrote a set of very personal and open set of songs. In other words if you want to know how Lennon was feeling in 1970 about his family, his friends, God, nations, etc. then pick this album up.
Funny thing is if most artists put together something like this I think we would all label them as egomaniacs, but Lennon manages to do it here in such a way that the listener can connect all of these emotions and feelings back to themselves. It is in some ways like reading a musical autobiography, and it shows off Lennon's abilities as a writer more than anything else he ever did in his career.
This is not the kind of album you just throw on for kicks, so you definitely need to be in the mood to feel introspective to give this one a listen.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.
This is probably the best Bob Dylan imitation I have ever heard. It was really good.
